Mobile Home & Trailer Demolition seems like a simple enough task, but could become dangerous if not done properly!

An old mobile home or trailer on your property can become an unsightly mess. Most mobile homes were only designed to have a 50 year life, so many are becoming unusable very quickly. Their light frames, thin walls, and often-times cheap construction makes them very difficult to repair, so mobile home demolition may be your best option.
There are many ways to demolish a mobile home, the most popular of which I have listed below:
- Excavator Demolition
- Skid Steer Demolition
- Demolition by Hand
- Truck and Chain
Each of these methods have their pros and cons, and really depend on the risk, cost, and time that the person demolishing the mobile home is willing to incur.
Consider hiring a Mobile Home Demolition Professional
Many people consider demolishing a mobile home on their property themselves, which is a very risky operation. If an unskilled person or operator makes the wrong cut or move, a simple demolition project can get very dangerous very quickly.
We recommend going with an insured, experienced mobile home demolition contractor that can make quick work of your project. Often times, these mobile home demolition companies can complete your project at a better price than you can even do yourself!
These companies are able to accomplish this by having existing relationships with landfills & have their own heavy equipment.

How To Demolish A Trailer – Step By Step
With the right equipment and experience, mobile home demolition and removal can be done in as little as 5-6 hours! Below are the steps for general mobile home demolition
- Obtain all necessary permits prior to beginning demolition
- Ensure water, sewer, and electric utilities are all disconnected prior to beginning demolition
- Order 2-3 40 cubic yard dumpsters to be dropped on-site before beginning demolition
- Begin knocking out the wall structure of the trailer – this is the main support for the mobile home, so it is the easiest way to get it down quick
- Pull the roof structure off of the trailer, and begin “grinding” up the material to pack into the dumpsters better
- Begin loading the dumpsters with the demolition debris, ensuring you separate all recyclables, etc
- When it comes time, flip the trailer over so the frame is exposed and pull the frame off the bottom of the trailer
- Have an experienced employee begin cutting up the trailer frame in a safe location. A torch, or carbide-tipped sawzall blades work great for this!
- Finish loading all debris into the dumpsters, and have an employee pick up all the small items left behind. Plan on this process to take at least 3-4 hours if the site is to look perfect.
- Load up scrap metal to go to the scrap yard, and call the dumpster company for pickup of the dumpsters
Cost of Demolishing a Mobile Home
We have found that the average 70′ mobile home demolition costs as follows:
- $2700 for dumpster fees (Northeast PA Rates @ $90/ton + hauling)
- $800 for machine rental and delivery
Scrap Value of a Mobile Home
Most people wonder what the scrap value of an average 70′ mobile home is. Unfortunately, the average mobile home will only net about $300-400 in scrap value depending on its construction. The average values are as follows:
- $200-250 for trailer frame (Shearing price as of 6/1/18 is $200/ton at Weitsman Scranton)
- $50 for copper/wiring
- $100 for misc. tin siding & appliances from trailer
As you can see, the costs of demolishing and disposing of a mobile home seriously outweigh the scrap value of the same home. Be wary of anyone who offers to demolish your mobile home for scrap value, as you may be left with a big mess to clean up!
