As many of us know by now, the Coronavirus pandemic is affecting not only the United States, but the entire world’s economy and health.

In our area, both the cities of Scranton and Wilkes-Barre have declared a state of emergency. The governor of Pennsylvania ordered that all non-essential businesses should close immediately.

In addition, the stock market has continued to plummet, reaching historic lows on many shares.

What does Coronavirus mean for junk removal?

Many junk removal businesses and franchises are marketed and sold as “recession proof” businesses. The theory is that regardless of world and economic conditions, there will always be a need to have items and junk hauled away.

While that is true, part of it is not entirely accurate. Waste and trash removal services such as Waste Management will always have a need and demand.

Junk Removal is a luxury service, and in conditions such as this, people may choose not to hire a junk hauling company. They will either wait to have their junk removed, or do it themselves.

The demand for all-in-one convenience services is dropping, as customers now have more free time and less money.

Will there still be any work?

While I believe that small junk removal jobs will disappear, large-scale cleanouts will still need to be done professionally. Of course, there will be less of them too.

With that said, a homeowner and a pickup truck could never perform a house cleanout in any decent amount of time or cost-effectively. This is where I believe that junk removal businesses will shine in the coming months and years.

Long-Term Effects of Coronavirus

An event such as this has never happened in the last 300+ years. This means there are no standards, protocols, or methods of getting through this disaster.

In my opinion, the biggest losers of the Coronavirus economic disaster will be small businesses. Between the lack of work, loss of employees, and overhead of keeping a business afloat, many small businesses will fold.

If you are a junk removal business reading this, consider yourself warned. Hold on to any cash you may have and liquidate any un-needed assets. This could last 1 month, 6 months, or years. Nobody knows.

Final Thoughts

I truly believe that the strong will survive in business. We all got spoiled the past couple years with how “easy” it has been getting jobs, purchasing equipment, and running a business.

Now is the time to tighten up your belt and hold on. The demand for junk removal will skyrocket once this economic and health disaster is over. People will be stuck in their homes for weeks or months and want to change everything once they get out.

This means remodeling construction debris removal, furniture removal, appliance removal, basement cleanouts, or even full house cleanouts!

This is an excellent company to deal with. I highly recommend! They were punctual, friendly and communicative throughout the entire process. From the first call, to the estimate, to the contract details, to start day/time, to what to expect day of and clean up day. It is very hard to find this level of customer service anymore! We hired them to tear down an old cinderblock/wood garage. It was right on the property line and didn’t have much room for error. A+ took the garage down no problem and did a great job with haul away and cleanup. You can tell they know their stuff. Sal always returned calls and emails. We got a fair price and a job well done! I definitely recommend and would work with them again if the need ever arises.

The 3 man crew did a fantastic job in clearing out and disposing of several large and small items that still remained after a 2 day estate sale. Items removed included beds and mattresses, 3 couches, bedroom chest of drawers, old refrigerator and electric stove, computer desk, old and very heavy television, several tools plus much more.Very courteous workers and owner was great to work with. Highly recommend and you won’t be disappointed.
