Step-By-Step Free House Cleanout Guide
Step 1: Organize Your Items
The first step in the cleanout process is to organize what you are keeping, what is trash, and what is valuable. This is the most time-consuming process, but it helps make your cleanout go more smoothly.
For example, bag up unwanted items into trash bags. For items you are keeping, move them into a storage unit or POD. There will most likely be items that you do not wish to keep but aren’t trash such as furniture, appliances, etc. You can keep these items in-place, but be sure to remove them of trash. Cleaning the items goes a long way as well.
Step 2: Find a Service
There are individuals who will clean out an entire house including the garbage just to keep some valuable items. For example, if you have 100 garbage bags worth of trash, but some bedroom sets, these individuals may take the job on. Beware though, most companies that offer “free” cleanouts are not licensed or insured.
If you decide to hire a free cleanout service, be sure to get references and make sure they dispose of your trash items properly. Many free services illegally dump trash in order to save money.
Step 3: Clean Out the House
Now that you have all your items separated and a company lined up to clean out the house, it’s time to start!
The cleanout process will take about 1-2 days for most small liquidation services. The time taken depends on the amount of employees and the trucks hauling your items away.
The entire process from separating your items, to bagging trash, to cleaning out the house takes approximately 1 week. We recommend taking a week off from work to expedite this process. The benefit is your cleanout should cost little to no money if you manage it yourself.

The 3 man crew did a fantastic job in clearing out and disposing of several large and small items that still remained after a 2 day estate sale.
